Hello again!
I'm back again after a short holiday away with my family.
I decided to take a break from blogging as public Wifi in South Africa
is expensive & problematic & I also wanted some much needed family time.
I'm back today with another blog hop! This time Scrap 365 Magazine {UK}
has teamed up with Mixed Media Place {now owned by Finnabair & based in
Ireland}. We are getting your scrapping New Year off to a flying start!!
One of the things that we are very conscious of here at Scrap 365 HQ
is that
if you are new to scrapping it can be really overwhelming
with the choice of
products to use & the host of styles to emulate….
the same could be said even if
you’re more experienced!
So we have decided that 2014 is the year to get BACK to BASICS!!
It
doesn’t matter if you have been scrapping for ten years or ten days...
you will
be sure to learn something new along the way!
Mixed Media Place has very kindly donated a couple of
marvellous prizes to either add to your stash or to get you started.
In order to be in with a chance to win you need to :-

5. Leave me a comment telling me which
layout principle you are going to try!
{Optional - we would LOVE to see your
take on the principles so if you get a page
done using one of them don't forget to
upload it to the Scrap 365 Facebook page :)

Our January Blog Hop is all about layout principles.
Our editor found this
fabulous prompt on Pinterest,

It really sums up
the beginnings of every layout.
So come with us and see how this sketch turns
into some glorious pieces
of art.
I used the lovely OPTIMIST collection from Prima,
for my layout - based on Principle 10 - MOVEMENT & FLOW.
One of the ways to get a flow going on your layout is to simply work from one side
to the other, ensuring that your elements touch & overlap so they are not floating
alone & are all connected to each other.
Paper Bakery flairs, to embellish my page.
Adding leaves & tendrils {the green metal wire stems from the
flowers, twisted around a skewer} keeps things interesting
& textural & saves on the cost of flowers :)
Using co-ordinating papers from the same collection
is a sure way to ensure that your layout flows beautifully.
Light mixed media work is quick & easy to achieve & also helps to keep a layout looking co-hesive. Here I splattered Lindy's Stamp Gang mists across my cardstock before I began adhering my patterned papers, then finished off with a yellow gelato from Design Memory Craft {Faber Castell} rubbed along the perimeter of the print to merge it into the white card.

This is a principle I must try. x
I didn't understand this #10 rule and could not imaggine how to tranfer it on art. Thank you for your scrap because now I understand very well what does it mean :)) It's beautiful!!!
Thank you for that explanation of movement and flow. It really helps to make sense of all of this. Jenny x

Beautiful Helen, I do love the contrast of the black with the pastels.....thanks for sharing.
I love this idea. I would like to work with more texture on my pages. It makes sense to work from one side to the other. I usually work from the middle out. I love your work and am a huge fan and was already a follower of anything Scrap 365! Now I follow Mixed Media place. Can't wait to see and learn more! Thanks! All the best!
